My Niche or Yours? The Evolving Industrial Project Supply Chain
How strictly should project transport supply chain players define their roles? Project forwarders are buying vessels and warehouses, while carriers arrange for land transport and land transporters arrange for cargo storage. How much overlap is optimal, how should risk be allotted, and is ‘niche creep’ good, bad or simply inevitable?

Erik Hutter has more than 35 years’ experience in international transportation, freight forwarding, project logistics and ship management/operating. In addition to various foreign postings in Norway, South Africa, London and Rotterdam, he spent five years as Deputy Director of Alpina Reederei before moving to Panalpina subsidiary Air Sea Broker Ltd. where he spent 10 years as Director Marine Chartering. From 2000-2010, Hutter was global head for oil & gas at Panalpina, co-initiating Panprojects in 2002, and serving on its management board. From 2011-2013 he was country manager at Panalpina Norway, with a three-year mandate to integrate Grieg Logistics into the company. In 2014 Hutter returned to the head office as global head of marine chartering and head of Panprojects Carrier. In this role, he oversaw the merger of Panprojects and Panalpina’s oil & gas division into Panalpina Energy & Project Solutions.
